Senior Grandmaster Jesse “Cheyenne” Corpus is a 9th Degree Kajukenbo Black Belt and the founder and leader of J. Corpus Martial Arts (JCMA). His martial arts journey began in 1971 in Vallejo, California, and he has dedicated more than five decades to the practice, teaching, preservation, and advancement of Kajukenbo.
Throughout his career, SGM Corpus has focused not only on martial arts skill, but also on developing character, confidence, discipline, and leadership through training. His teaching philosophy emphasizes learning from the heart, building strong relationships, and helping students develop in spirit, mind, and body.
SGM Corpus has played an important role in the continued development and preservation of Kajukenbo and serves as Chairman of Sijo’s Board of Advisors. He continues to teach and mentor martial artists while supporting the growth of instructors and students throughout the Kajukenbo community.
Solis Martial Arts is honored to be a recent JCMA affiliate, with SGM Jesse Corpus serving as an Advisor to our school. Through this affiliation, SMA students have opportunities for additional training, mentorship, cross-training, and guidance as we continue to strengthen our curriculum and uphold the standards of Kajukenbo.

Head Instructor

Sifu/Instructor James is a 4th Degree Black Belt. He began his martial arts training at age 5, at the original home of Solis Martial Arts in San Pablo, Ca. It was founded by his father Prof Eddie Solis. James earned his black belt in 2001 and has won 7 North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA) world champion titles, including 6 in creative extreme forms and one in sparring. He has traveled to places around the globe such as Central America, Asia and Europe as a competitor and as an invited guest instructor for professional demonstrations, seminars and private lessons. At the age of 11 Mr. Solis was selected over 600 other applicants for a featured spot on the GAP kids Super Power Denim commercial which aired nationally. That same year he appeared on the Good Morning America Show. In addition he was featured on ESPN2 competing at the US Open ISKA Sport Karate World Championship as a member of PRORANKS WORLD RENOWNED ELITE TEAM .

Carla de Alba’s journey at Solis Martial Arts began as a parent, enrolling her children because of her belief in the values, discipline, and positive impact that martial arts can have on young people. Inspired by the transformation she witnessed in her own children, Carla eventually stepped onto the mat herself and began her own martial arts journey.
What began as a commitment to her family grew into a passion for martial arts, personal growth, and community. Today, Carla is the owner and an instructor at Solis Martial Arts, where she is dedicated to carrying forward the traditions and values that have made the school a part of the East Bay community for more than 40 years.
As a martial artist, business owner, and mother, Carla is passionate about creating an environment where students are challenged to grow while feeling supported, encouraged, and connected. Her vision is to preserve the foundation and traditions of Solis Martial Arts while continuing to evolve the school to meet the needs of the next generation.
Through her leadership, Carla is committed to maintaining high standards in martial arts training while helping students develop discipline, confidence, perseverance, respect, and character both on and off the mat.
Today, Solis Martial Arts continues to build on its long-standing foundation while looking toward the future—with a commitment to honoring its history, strengthening its community, and helping each student reach their full potential.
